It’s a sad commentary on the state of our society when we look to machines for everything. Even exercise. People don’t ask "what kind of exercise should I do to get fit and healthy?". Nope. It always seems to be "what kind of exercise machines will make me lose weight and give me killer abs?’ As if a machine can give you anything.
If you want benefits from exercise, you need to earn them. And a machine is not necessary. You’d be well advised to start exercising without one. Then when you get some experience, if you still feel the urge to get some sort of machine, you’ll have an idea what might work best for you. Start out with bodyweight exercises like pushups, crunches, squats, dips between chairs, etc. You can add in a chin up bar (no, that’s not a machine :-)) and for aerobic work a jump rope. You can also do strength/cardio combination exercises like moutain climbers, squat thrusts and bear crawls. This stuff’ll get you as fit as any machine made.

While the word “reserve” may evoke images of wildlife conservation (READ: off limits to humans except for wildlife conservationists), it is not always the case. If you are looking for ways to get flat abs, your six pack quest is probably a lot like mine. I am trying to find out what the most effective workout is to get flat abs. I know that I need to do ab exercises as well as cardio, but I have seen conflicting information on the best type of ab exercises to do for the most effective workout. I have heard that pilates and exercising on exercise balls and other destabilizing equipment can be more effective since it works more ab muscles than things like traditional crunches. Is this true?
