Buying Jewellery as Gifts

Jewellery is probably the most preferred gift for someone who is close to you or is special to you. It is expensive and exquisite; therefore it makes those you gift it to feel the same. Ideally it is the preferred gift between partners and spouses. Yet jewellery can come in quite affordable varieties. While buying jewellery, one must be careful though. It is quite personal and you’ll be spending quite a bit, so you want something that the other person really likes. Therefore consider the following while buying jewellery:
1. Budget: This is of some importance as there are many types of jewellery available but one could buy something quite affordable which is still beautiful. If you can afford it, platinum and diamonds are the preferred choices, followed by gold. Then you could go in for white gold or sterling silver. Of course, price also depends on the piece of jewellery concerned including its design and make. However, searching around the internet and in shops will give you an idea of where the bargains and great deals can be made.
2. Tastes and preferences: When buying for that ‘someone special’, their tastes and preferences come first. If you’re buying for a woman, it is best to check out what kind of jewellery she likes to wear or what she ‘ooohs’ over at the shopping centre. Probably checking out her collection (not stealthily, as this will give out very wrong ideas) and asking her friends is another great idea. If buying for a man, find out if he wears jewellery first. Usually men’s jewellery consists of a wristwatch or cuff links – in which case you would have to notice what brand or make he wears.
3. Lifestyle: The person’s lifestyle is extremely important to determine how well she/he will be able to use the gift. You will need to check if he/she likes to go to parties, socialises frequently or spends a lot of time working, or if they stay at home most of the time. Accordingly, it will give you an idea of what kind of jewellery will suit them best and if what you’ve bought will be worn.
4. Homework: Once you’ve worked out what kind of jewellery you want to buy, a little bit of research will help you get the best available. When it comes to precious metals and stones, you really cannot tell if you’re getting what you’re paying for. Therefore, check on a certification for purity. Buy from a trusted and reputable dealer. While buying precious stones such as diamonds look up additional information to help you judge its quality and make.
