In debt at 25
February 28th, 2009
I’m 25 years old and can’t make even the minimum monthly payments for my credit cards. The relationship with credit began when I was in college. I don’t think young people can even begin to imagine the horror of debt. I had major credit cards along with credit cards from my favorite department stores. I paid my cards off each month until I had a complication with a pregnancy and my boyfriend became unemployed. I was only able to make minimum payments and as fees and interest rates piled on I soon was unable to make payments at all and defaulted on most of my cards. To make matters worse, I was in a car accident that made it difficult to work and once the baby was born I didn’t work at all. I was completely unprepared for emergencies and used what little credit I had left to charge diapers and formula. My boyfriend is now employed which of course helps, but we need help and are looking into credit card debt relief.
