What Is Design Psychology?

March 28th, 2009

Have you heard of psychology colleges offering courses in Design Psychology? I haven’t, but recently I ran onto an article mentioning the concept. Toby Israel, PhD, is credited with founding this new field, which she defines as “the practice of architecture, planning and interior design in which psychology is the principal design tool”. The idea is to bring out your memory of the spaces, colors, textures, furniture and objects of your positive childhood experiences. The psychologist helps you transfer them into a perfect design for the space you are decorating or designing. The idea is that Design Psychology will help you recognize and/or create the home of your dreams.
