Age: One of the Leading Causes of Secondary Infertility

January 19th, 2008

One of the major causes of secondary infertility is age. As most women today are putting off child bearing until a later age, by the time they have a second child they are well into their thirties or forties. This causes secondary infertility. This type of infertility can also be caused as a consequence of the first born child.

Sometimes, after the birth of the first child a few women develop an infection that compromises their ability to conceive another child. For instance, if during a cesarean, the products of conception are retained in the vagina, the woman can acquire an infection in the pelvis.
