Prostate Herbs Treatment for Enlarged Prostate

February 28th, 2009

Prostate herbs are used to treat the problems that arise from an enlarged prostate gland, a condition which affects half of the male population above the age of fifty. The enlargement of the prostate gland is also known as benign prostate hypertrophy, or BPH. This is caused when the male hormone testosterone is converted into dihydrotesterone (DHT) in the body. DHT can accumulates in the prostate, causing the gland to enlarge. Testosterone is converted to DHT for a few reasons. A lack of the mineral zinc is one of them, as well as a deficiency of Vitamin B6 and essential fatty acids. Also, exposure to toxic chemicals such as cadmium and pesticides can lead to prostate enlargement, as can parasites and bacteria.
