The best way to get your Omega-3′s? Eat them.

April 26th, 2009

Though pure fish oil supplements are a convenient and economic way of digesting a daily dosage of the essential fatty acids EPA and DHA, as with most vitamins, the ideal way would be to eat your recommended amount. Depending on body weight, the daily recommended dose of fatty acids is between 650-1,000 milligrams, with 3,000 being the absolute upper limit. Patients should consult a professional when considering taking more than close to 3 grams daily. Eating cold-water fatty fish, such as flounder and albacore tuna, twice a week normally is sufficient to meet suggested intake levels. With recipes ranging from a Mackerel ceviche to cedar-plank grilled salmon to sardines on toast, you can easily incorporate fatty fish into your heart healthy diet.
