Here’s what I look for in antique bisque dolls

March 4th, 2008

I’m sure that all collectors are different — my approach may be very different from someone else’s. When I am investigating a doll for possible inclusion in my collection — antique bisque dolls, for example — one of the things that I look for is information regarding provenance. Provenance has to do with the history of an item — who has owned it, for how long, where the item was manufactured, how it was transported, etc. Why is this important? Because an item with a documented provenance is far less likely to be a fake or reproduction — the provenance indicates that the item has been in circulation for a long time, and that’s important.
