When my boyfriend went to buy his first home he was absolutely dismayed by his credit report. He had never had a credit card before and unbeknowst to him, someone else had taken out multiple cards in his name. Not only that, but he had a name change when he was younger due to his parents divorce and their were fraudulent charges under that name as well. His real estate agent told him to get a free credit report once this was cleared up so that he could constantly keep tabs on who and what was getting involved in his credit.
