What Are The Advantages of Attending A Community College?

I’m not sure whether or not I should apply to a state 4 year college or one of the many community colleges around. What are the advantages of attending a community college?
I have several fields that I’m interested in and it would be nice to have lower tuition and to be able to live and work out of my home rather than travel halfway across the state. I could save a lot of money that way. Anyone have any ideas? Do I really need a 4 year degree to be successful as a computer programer? What are the disadvantages and advantages of attending a comminty college?
