Server Overview

January 23rd, 2008

Servers are powerful computers that have extremely large hard drives, or an array of hard drives.  They are shared with other customers, and as such IRC-related activities or severely CPU intensive CGI scripts can have a detrimental effect.  Hospedagem can also provide data center space and connectivity to the Internet for servers that do not need to be located in a data center, called colocation.  Virtual dedicated servers are about dividing a server into virtual servers, where each user feels like they’re on their own dedicated server, but they’re actually sharing a server with many other users.  The best servers rarely run at over 2% load.
